The Rosary, by day of the week

## Pray the Rosary

Guided by two voices, with the road to the light.

The prayers men reach for when the fight gets real. Open to everyone, any time of day.

## Come, Holy Spirit

Before any prayer, and whenever you need light.

Opening prayer, days 1 to 14

Listen

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful and kindle in them the fire of Thy love.

V. Send forth Thy Spirit and they shall be created.
R. And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.

Let us pray. O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit didst instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

## Prayer to your guardian angel

Morning and night, and when you feel alone on the road.

Opening prayer, days 15 to 30

Listen

Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God's love commits me here, ever this day be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.

## Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel

In temptation, and after Mass in many parishes.

Opening prayer, days 31 to 45

Listen

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

## The Memorare

When you are worn out and need help you can't give yourself.

Opening prayer, days 46 to 60

Listen

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

## Anima Christi

After Communion, and when you want to stay close to Christ.

Opening prayer, days 61 to 75

Listen

Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within Thy wounds hide me.
Suffer me not to be separated from Thee.
From the malicious enemy defend me.
In the hour of my death call me
and bid me come unto Thee,
that with Thy saints I may praise Thee
for ever and ever. Amen.

## Te Deum

In thanksgiving, especially as the journey ends. This ancient hymn is traditionally sung on Sundays and great feasts.

Opening prayer, days 76 to 90

Listen

We praise Thee, O God: we acknowledge Thee to be the Lord.
All the earth doth worship Thee, the Father everlasting.
To Thee all Angels cry aloud, the Heavens and all the Powers therein.
To Thee Cherubim and Seraphim continually do cry:
Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Sabaoth;
Heaven and earth are full of the majesty of Thy glory.

The glorious company of the Apostles praise Thee.
The goodly fellowship of the Prophets praise Thee.
The noble army of Martyrs praise Thee.
The holy Church throughout all the world doth acknowledge Thee:
the Father, of an infinite majesty;
Thine honourable, true and only Son;
also the Holy Ghost, the Comforter.

Thou art the King of Glory, O Christ.
Thou art the everlasting Son of the Father.
When Thou tookest upon Thee to deliver man, Thou didst not abhor the Virgin's womb.
When Thou hadst overcome the sharpness of death, Thou didst open the Kingdom of Heaven to all believers.
Thou sittest at the right hand of God, in the glory of the Father.
We believe that Thou shalt come to be our Judge.

We therefore pray Thee, help Thy servants, whom Thou hast redeemed with Thy precious blood.
Make them to be numbered with Thy Saints in glory everlasting.
O Lord, save Thy people, and bless Thine heritage.
Govern them, and lift them up for ever.
Day by day we magnify Thee;
and we worship Thy Name ever, world without end.

Vouchsafe, O Lord, to keep us this day without sin.
O Lord, have mercy upon us, have mercy upon us.
O Lord, let Thy mercy be upon us, as our trust is in Thee.
O Lord, in Thee have I trusted: let me never be confounded.

## Prayers in temptation

Short prayers to say the moment temptation hits. Say one, then get up and change what you're doing.

Listen

O God, come to my assistance; O Lord, make haste to help me. Psalm 69:2, Douay-Rheims

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in Thee.

Then pray the St. Michael prayer above, and call a brother if the fight keeps going.

## The daily examen

Ten minutes before bed. It's the habit that ties the whole day back to God.

Listen

The examen comes from St. Ignatius of Loyola. Sit quietly, ask for light, and walk back through your day in five steps:

1. **Remember you are in God's presence.** Slow down and ask the Holy Spirit to show you the day as it really was.
2. **Give thanks.** Name a few specific gifts from today, however small.
3. **Review the day.** Go through it hour by hour. Where did you follow God, and where did you turn away?
4. **Ask forgiveness.** Be honest about where you fell, and tell Him you're sorry. Pray the Act of Contrition below.
5. **Resolve for tomorrow.** Pick one concrete thing to do differently, and ask for the grace to do it.

## Our Father

The prayer Christ gave us.

Listen

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

## Hail Mary

At any hour, and fifty times in every Rosary.

Listen

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

## Glory Be

To close a decade, a psalm or any prayer.

Listen

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

## Act of Contrition

In Confession, at night, and right after you fall.

Listen

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because of Thy just punishments, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen.

## Morning Offering

First thing, before your feet hit the floor.

Listen

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer You my prayers, works, joys and sufferings of this day for all the intentions of Your Sacred Heart, in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, for the salvation of souls, the reparation of sins, and the reunion of all Christians. Amen.

## Questions about these prayers

### Which Rosary mysteries are prayed on each day?

The Joyful Mysteries on Monday and Saturday, the Sorrowful Mysteries on Tuesday and Friday, the Glorious Mysteries on Wednesday and Sunday, and the Luminous Mysteries on Thursday.

### What is a good Catholic prayer in temptation?

Short prayers said right away work best: "O God, come to my assistance; O Lord, make haste to help me" (Psalm 69:2), the Jesus Prayer, or the prayer to St. Michael the Archangel. Then change what you're doing and reach out to a brother.

### How do you pray the daily examen?

Before bed, place yourself in God's presence, give thanks for the day's gifts, review the day hour by hour, ask forgiveness where you fell, and resolve one concrete change for tomorrow. It takes about ten minutes.

### Which prayers open each stage of the 90 days?

Come, Holy Spirit (days 1 to 14), the guardian angel prayer (15 to 30), the St. Michael prayer (31 to 45), the Memorare (46 to 60), Anima Christi (61 to 75) and the Te Deum (76 to 90).
